ROG and GCG members met in Brno

Experts on monitoring of persistent organic pollutants met in the hotel Continental in Brno from September 17-20, 2013. The participating members of the Regional Organization Groups (ROG) and of the Global Coordination Group (GCG) for the Global Monitoring Plan of the Stockholm Convention on persistent organic pollutants (POPs) arrived from all five UN regions. Part of the meeting was also held at RECETOX premises.

The meeting aimed to finalize details of the forthcoming data collection campaign to obtain levels of POPs in air, breast milk and water (for PFOS) in order to provide information for the 2nd Global Report of the Global Monitoring Plan. This global report will be completed and submitted to the 7th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Stockholm Convention in 2015.

The Stockholm Convention Regional Centre in RECETOX therefore organized this meeting in cooperation with the Stockholm Convention secretariat to train ROG and GCG group members in using the GMP data warehouse, the electronic data collection form directly linked to the warehouse, as well as the pops-gmp.org portal.

The participants greatly appreciated prepared tool and additional services embedded in the tool provided by RECETOX and IBA for data collection and subsequent management. In addition, some of the participants wished to receive training in water sampling by using passive samplers and they could get the “hands on” in the corridor of the RECETOX premises.
