Change of PCBs and forms of heavy metals in sewage sludge during thermophilic anaerobic digestion

Pages 168-173
Lidia Dąbrowska, Agata Rosińska

  • Thermophilic fermentation has not caused accumulation of heavy metals in mobile fractions of sludge.
  • Better results of sludge stabilization, higher yields of biogas.
  • After fermentation total concentration of seven PCBs reduced.

The behaviors and fate of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in a coking wastewater treatment plant

Pages 174-182
Wanhui Zhang, Chaohai Wei, Xinsheng Chai, Jingying He, Ying Cai, Man Ren, Bo Yan, Pingan Peng, Jiamo Fu

  • Eighteen PAHs occurred in wastewater, gas and sludge samples from a coking WWTP.
  • Anaerobic and aerobic tanks played different roles for heavier and lower PAHs.
  • Over 97% PAHs were removed in the WWTP, 47.4–91.6% were achieved in biological stage.
  • Adsorption was the major removal mechanism of PAHs, especially for high MW ones.
