POPs monitoring experts in Brno

Research Centre for Toxic Compounds in the Environment (RECETOX) in cooperation with Institute of Biostatistics and Analyses (IBA) and the Secretariat of the Stockholm Convention on persistent organic pollutants have organized a 3-day expert meeting on the future of data handling under the Global Monitoring Plan of the Stockholm Convention (13-15 June 2012).


Representatives of UN regions together with experts from major international monitoring programmes contributing to GMP have met in Brno to discuss effective implementation of the amended Guidance and tasks related to the broadening of the scope of the Stockholm Convention. Experts have presented their national and international monitoring programmes including data management, control systems and visualization tools. RECETOX has presented tools and features of its information systems GENASIS (Global Environmental Assessment Information System) and pilot proposal for electronic data handling tool for GMP1, POPs data collected prior mid 2008. Lively discussions on the GMP tools and linking to existing programmes will continue in Geneva in October 2012.
